Senior gas conversion experts from more than twenty-five countries gathered in Doha, the "Gas Capital of the World", for the tenth edition of the triennial Natural Gas Conversion Symposia series. Home to the world's first, and the world's largest, commercial-scale gas-to-liquids plants, Qatar is also a center for important research and development in gas conversion processes and related gas monetization technologies by a number of international universities and companies.
The Local Organizing Committee reflected the scale of local and international collaboration underway in Qatar, involving representatives from Texas A&M Qatar, Qatar University, ORYX GTL, Qatar Petroleum, and Qatar Shell.
In addition to four days of symposium presentations and poster sessions, the event included opportunities for delegates to visit Ras Laffan Industrial City and two of the largest GTL facilities on earth - ORYX GTL and Pearl GTL; a visit to QAPCO's gas-to-chemicals complex in Mesaieed Industrial City; and a social program that included waterside dining with a traditional sword dance along the Doha Corniche and a gala dinner and award ceremony on the Ritz-Carlton's garden terrace. The event concluded with an announcement that the next edition of the symposia series would be held in Tromso, Norway in 2016. |
